Sticky Buns

Recipe file created November 8, 1999.
These are delicious hot or cold, although they seldom last to be eaten cold around my house.

For Bread Machine: Put water, sugar, salt, 2 tablespoons margarine, and egg in bread machine. Add flour and finally the yeast. Set machine to make dough. Proceed to step 2 below.

To Make By Hand: Stir sugar into water in a large bowl. Add yeast -- let stand 10 minutes. Stir well. Add 2 tablespoons margarine, salt and 1 cup flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in an additional flour to make a soft dough. Knead 8 to 10 minutes. Place in a lightly greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double in bulk -- about 45 minutes. Punch down and let rest 10 minutes.

Step 2: Roll dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. Combine melted margarine, brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread 3/4 of the mixture on the bread dough. Put remaining brown sugar mixture in bottom of baking pan, spreading evenly. Sprinkle the nuts and fruit onto the bread dough. Roll. Slice into 9 or 12 slices, whatever fits your baking pan. Place slices into baking pan. Let rise 20 to 30 minutes, until they fill the pan well. Bake 350 F for about 20 to 25 minutes.

Place cooling rack on a cookie sheet. Set the pan upside down on the rack and let sit for 10 minutes. Remove pan.
